What do you do for a living? (Part2)

February 4th 2008 12:39
Okay, so there you are socialising away and the question (previously mentioned in What do you do for a living Part1) drops into the conversation:

" And what do you do for a living?"

Well at this point, there are a couple of options, First; Lie! I had someone convinced I was a lion tamer once, but only for a short time!. Two; Run, becomes a bit boring and you tend to spill your drink!, Three: tell the truth, in a big loud proud voice say " I am in the motor industry" but as you say this duck!

One of two things will happen here, they will turn and leave or they will ask you one of the next two most hated questions, " How much is my car worth?" OR " Im going to buy a new car, what should I look at?"

After emptying my glass in a single mouthful, Autoloud will normally refill his glass and settle in, because there is no escape and resistance is futile.

How much is my car worth?:
The sad news here is no matter what figure I tell people, it never seems to be high enough, some owners are worse than others, but the right answer here will normally ensure they turn and walk away anyway. They will stand in a corner and look daggers for the rest of the night, The truth sometimes can hurt! Ford owners have been known to cry after these conversations! C'est la vie!

You see whenever I tell people what their car is worth I talk in wholesale values, its only fair, lets face it, giving people a retail value only makes their expectations high and fills them with false hopes. . I am a realist!

What should I buy?
This is much easier, depending on their budget, if buying new, buy Toyota, why? Build quality, reliability and resale (except for Prius) A guaranteed no drama ownership, so no nasty phone calls from angry acquaintances. Also Hyundai, best warranty anywhere!

If looking at prestige, also easy, any GERMAN SUV, ie BMW X5 diesel Executive sport or M/Benz 350CDI M Class. Why? They cost 30- 40 grand less than an equivalent normal station wagon thanks to Australias crazy import tariffs, economical in diesel form and once again resale values, solid gold returns on the BMW after three years of ownership.

Now to the "Dont say I didnt warn you dept" do not buy RANGE ROVERS or Discovery's. You will tear up tens of thousands of dollars! Also anything pretending to be a prestige car from Korea, walk, no, RUN!

Autoloud owns NONE of the above mentioned brands and has no desire to! BUT if you were to offer me an X5 diesel for free, I would consider it, I am only human after all!

" And what do you do for a living?"

I am a pornstar. I get to have sex with pretty women and they pay me to do it. Cool, huh?
Two birds in one stone, so to speak.

I also work part-time in the motor industry but I really don't belong there coz I'm nice...really nice.Ask me about your car's worth to prove me wrong.
