AUTOLOUD does not want to sound rude, but, someone has to say this, the new Porsche Panamera is unfortunate looking; actually this thing is just plain UGLY!
Yes, yes - I know it looks like a 911, but the 911 has always looked like a 911, it does have a heritage that stretches back 40 years and if you look at the original Porsche 901 and the new model 911 you can see the family resemblance! That makes sense! This thing on the other hand........!
I don’t envy the job the designers had, a new sector, a front mounted engine instead of an engine in the rear, Gott in Himmel! If you think back for a minute they have done this previously, a long time ago. The 928, remember that? I can’t help but feel that the designers spent no more than 20 minutes designing the Panamera, simply by taking the easy way out. They traced out the 911, added some rear doors and made it fit on a Cayenne mechanical package, how clever were they!
The Panamera is in competition against some good looking cars, for instance the up-coming Aston Martin Rapide, the Audi A7 and the BMW CS (both of which may or not be coming to market) and don’t forget the car that started all this, the Mercedes Benz CLS. Even though it is a couple of years old, AUTOLOUD thinks that the BMW M5 is more than a match for it!
The car will undoubtedly sell well in America thanks to the badge, they will fit 26 or 28 inch wheels and add gold badges; it will be bastardised even more and displayed at SEMA. The Panamera may have enough cup holders for them too! Now matter what they do, to quote Sir Winston Churchill “You will still be UGLY!”
