Timekeeping and Camry drivers, discuss!

January 21st 2008 12:45
If, like me, you are a little slow in rising in the morning, you will probably understand what I am about to discuss. You get out of bed, you shower (only 4 minutes though due to the current Queensland drought) you dress, you walk out the front door and get into the car. You congratulate yourself for achieving all of this in under nine minutes, start the car and drive off, this is where our morning begins to unravel!

The published speed limit for the road you are currently driving along is 60kmh and you begin to wonder as to why are we travelling at 42 kmh? A simple enough question with has an easy answer, at the head of the steady growing column of vehicles you are stuck in is a ............TOYOTA CAMRY!

Yep, The Toyota Camry, Australias favourite mobile road block, regardless of age of vehicle or owner, Camry drivers think differently to most other road users, You see the local government bodies who control our highways and byways think 60kmh is a sensible safe speed, unfortunately this view is not shared by Camry-person, they think thats far too fast! 40kmh is a far more sensible pace. In school zones the problem compounds itself, the speed limit there lowers to 40 kmh, Camry-person decides that either 18kmh or 23kmh is acceptable, so slow in fact that little old ladies on mobility scooters have the edge on top speed in these zones.

Now, dont get me wrong, I have a healthy regard for road safety, but our road toll would be much lower if Camry drivers were outlawed completely. ( Sorry Toyota & AM radio stations)Think about this for a minute, Camry and therefore Camry drivers have less roads accidents than other road users, that fact may be true but there are no statistics available on how many accidents they actually cause! They are a caring, sharing bunch of people after all boredom and yawning are very contagious!!

A little pointer for Camry drivers the suggested distance for indicating to turn a corner is three seconds, Not three kilometres or hourzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
