This is the future and the Delorean is not going back!

Autoloud never ceases to be amazed by the Motor industry. Just when you think you have seen it all, then round the bend comes another surprise!
They stopped production in 1983 and if you are really keen you can have a brand new re-manufactured one.
It was originally the dream of the late John Z Delorean. Formerly head of Pontiac, his dream was to build a sports coupe and with the help of $ 150,000,000 of the British Governments money and a factory in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The Delorean DMC 12 became a reality.
The car itself was engineered by Lotus, using an Espirit backbone chassis. Styled by Giugiaro, the Delorean featured those distinctive gullwing doors, a plastic underbody and brushed Stainless steel bodywork. Powered by a rear mounted PRV ( Peugout, Renault, Volvo) 2.8 litre V6 and burdened by American regulation pollution gear, the V6 struggled to make 100kw (130hp). Needless to say, the Delorean was not renowned for its performance.
The company ran into financial trouble in 1982 and John Z was famously caught with a large suitcase of drugs. The story goes that when Delorean left to close the drug deal, an Investment banker rang to offer him the funds he required to keep the business going. He missed the call and the rest, as they say is history. The factory closed in 1983 and the contents were auctioned off.
Now assembled in Texas, the Delorean you can buy is a "brand new" 25 year old car which utilises up to 80% of the original parts purchased at that very auction. Offered up at a base price of around $ 57,000, the car has been tweaked mechanically and a reasonable range of modern options are available.
Mind you whether Marty or the Doc know what an Ipod plug does, is another thing!
