The last Australian Ford Falcon!
February 19th 2008 14:08
So Im only guessing but what does the prefix code FG stand for in the "All new" (Fords words not mine) Falcon? Im guessing here but does FG stand for Fairly Good? or perhaps
Fu#%ing Glum?
Whatever!
Ford in America continue to bleed money at an alarming rate, so obviously Ford in Australia only had a limited amount of money to play with, for an all new car it sure does like look like the old one with a Mondeo nose!
To prove that Ford have a sense of humour, The new President of Ford Australia, Mr Bill Osborne, will now be known within the Ford world as Aussie Osborne! After seven hours in the hot seat he continues to be positive, Good on him!
Admittedly Ford Australia continues to be the RWD centre of the Ford empire, but I honestly dont think the Falcon is long for this world, the sales volumes for last year speak for themselves. The majority of the traditional buyers for the big cars are moving on in droves, even government fleets are now looking at green alternatives. Okay, so Ford offer an LPG model but where is the diesel option? Supposedly they are working on it, but imagine the Falcon with the turbo charged 2.7 V6 diesel as fitted to the Discovery or S-Type Jaguar, same power but with 45mpg! The technology was there and they didnt use it! Instead they thought the hand built 5.4 Litre V8 was a priority?? For who? The Falcon is almost like Grandads axe, its had fourteen handles and eight heads but its still Grandads axe
Once the initial sales rush for the new model is over, it will be interesting to see where the monthly sales rate ends up, probably at Mitsubishi 380 levels.
My tip? At least go down to the local Ford dealer and pick up a brochure for the last Australian built Falcon while you can, that piece of sales literature may be worth something one day on e-bay. Mark my words!
