The anouncement of another new Honda Accord, Yawn! Its not even a Euro!
The all new Honda Accord is the American version, its a big boring car, in size its directly comparable to a Falcon or Commodore. This confirms what AUTOLOUD has known for some time, Japanese cars just keep getting bigger! The Japanese industry are grand masters at increasing the size of every new generation of model, without you even noticing! So in theory the 2050 model Suzuki Sierra will be about the same size as a Hummer H1, should be fun with a 1.3 litre, maybe not!
Its not just Honda that pump their cars full of hormones, look at Toyota products, the Crown, started life as a family sedan, albeit a small family sedan l(think todays Corolla size) but the newly released Crown Athlete is S Class Benz size car! The only Athlete this thing can be compared to, is probably a Sumo wrestler. The arrival of the Landcruiser 200 series AKA Lexus LX 570 also points to the growth in size, these things are HUGE!! The Japanese will probably blame the American Market, they just dont do small cars.
The new Accord has a fascinating new development in engine technology, depending on the conditions the car is operating under it will run on 6 cylinders or 4 or even 3 cylinders on cruising at light loads, is it a British or Rover engine? Actually this feature is not new, Cadillac offered the V8-6-4 for the 1980 model year on Seville and Eldorado models, imagine the feeling, three tons of Cadillac land yacht marshmallowing its way across the prairie, with the power of a throbbing V4 under the bonnet! A cowboy boot pressed deep into the shag pile would the summon the extra cylinders/ horses to join the rodeo, YEEEEEHA! The sad part here is like most American cars of that era, only shetland ponies arrived!
