RIP WRX - Damn you Subaru!

You know sometimes it only takes one car to make a car company cool!
Case in point is the Subaru WRX. This all wheel drive turbocharged rally rocket emerged from the primeval ooze in which Subaru used to live in. Autoloud remembers the Brumby or as it was known in the states Brat. This utility had a production run so long it was mentioned in the bible!
Misshapen lumps like the first Liberty/Legacy, the Justy and of course lest we not forget the Vortex, have all come and gone. The one car that everyone remembers is the WRX or REX!
Considering this car is held in such high regard (except by Mitsubishi EVO drivers) why the hell would Subaru kill it off! Well, that’s the news from Japan anyway! Apparently along with all front wheel drive cars, Subaru will kill the Justy and also the REX. Why? they want to concentrate on their new core values, which according to them is now diesel and all wheel drive Foresters and Outbacks. ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!
The WRX has won how many World Rally Championships? Three actually and don’t forget the three drivers championships! Yet Subaru have thrown it from the boardroom window to commit Seppuku on the front steps below. How quickly they forget!
This was the car that made Subaru cool in the eyes of both the Bobble hat and Baseball hat brigades. It also made friends in uniform too as hundreds of Hot shoe constables the world over will attest to! The first two generations in sedan form are the ones too have, the current shape looks too much like a Mazda and the sedan is WAY too boring!
Subaru will continue to build STi versions of the WRX - which does mean more performance but also means more cost!

I can only assume, even though they say that they're all about Foresters and Outbacks now (which is okay, the new Forester is great IMO) that they have something even better than the WRX in the works... perhaps something based on the rex design but with some flashy new something-or-other. We can only hope, as this move doesn't make any sense, commercially or otherwise.
