OZ Top Gear put me to sleep!
September 29th 2008 11:02
It came, I saw, it sent me to sleep!
Top Gear Australia has arrived and I have to admit the best comments of the 25 minutes or so that I did see, came not from anyone on the show but from Mrs Autoloud, who declared “ This isn’t as good as the other version!” and “I don’t like him!” Charlie Cox might be a nice man and hopefully he wont take this personally but there is a message in this I’m sure.
I know it was the first episode but it all felt a bit too “try hard” for me.
4x4 to the sand, tick that box, Porsche to Tasmania, Mmmm, maybe Porsche to the top end would have made more sense!
Stig was disappointing, but then again on that track I am not surprised, surely SBS could have done a deal with Eastern Creek or Wakefield Park near Goulburn to really show what the cars could do.
A minor point here, the Luxury Car Tax arrived in 1989 not 1979! Research is wonderful thing if used correctly!
The “What were they thinking!” segment is probably where the Aussie version will end up! I miss Clarkson, Captain Slow and Hamster already!

Taking the Porsche to the Top End will really show off all its features. Lets drive a high end car that is designed for Europe's roads to a place full of long straights.
If they use tracks such as Eastern Creek how will they use them for special occasions.

Really Long Link
At no point have the producers said they are trying to set up new Clarkson, May and Hammond and comparing a new show to one that has had years to pull it self together and find its groove is a little unfair.

I read some of your poetry once.
The point I was making, was that this show has had more press coverage than Paris Hilton on a bad night out. SBS have only their self to blame!
You have missed the point of my comments in that we saw the Porsche drive round some corners S-L-O-W-L-Y! A 1983 Peugeot 205 could have done it quicker!
You also missed the point about the Luxury Car Tax, Anyone in the media should know to research what they are going to say! More fool them if they dont!
From where I sat the "race track" looked unnecessarily long and narrow, the straight where the start finish line is only one lane of Tarmac wide, sorry but that is dangerous! I suggested the alternate tracks simply because that is what they are designed for and thay are both within easy reach of Sydney!
Most of the forums on the interweb reflect my comments, It has been panned by most viewers.
Anyway thanks for your comments.
AUTOLOUD.
P.S. How is the food at the SBS staff canteen, I hear they do a great Bulgarian roast turnip!
