Mad dogs and English cars break down in the midday sun.

Resplendant in a dark metallic blue, An example of one of the most maligned of recent Jaguars stormed past me on the freeway this morning, rain spraying from underneath its rounded rump. It was a late series S Type sedan with large factory Alloy wheels that filled the wheelarches nicely. As you can probably tell I have nothing against this particular Pussy, I think the styling ( always the moot point ) was perhaps a little too retro but its not an ugly car. A heritage is important for a vehicle of prestige bearing, look at Rolls Royce and Mercedes Benz, and considering what they had to work with, dare I say it a Lincoln Platform, Jaguar stylists probably took the attitude that by adding a XK 120-150 grille , four round headlights and that lovely rounded roofline and rear side windows, the car gained enough Jaguar DNA to pass as a Jag, well from 20 feet on a dark night anyway.
As it aged Jaguar really didnt alter the styling a lot, they tweaked it here and there and that was about it, in the right colours, normally dark metallics, the car looks right, The S-Type R that used to live in Brisbane in Jaguar Racing Green was the ultimate iteration, I can hear that V8 throbbing now!
The Ford Mondeo that wore a Jaguar jacket, better known as the X-Type was a complete waste of time. This missed opportunity gave young salary sacrifice executive types little if anything to excite them. Considered to be In the same marketplace as a BMW 3 Series and the Lexus IS 200-300, it was never a contender. Why? The styling was old on the drawing board it drove only okay but front and all wheel drive?? Who thought that up? Regardless of what you think, Jaguars should be rear wheel drive and have the ability to waft its driver and passengers.
Speaking of Jaguars that waft, a moments silence for the sad Mark 10 exhumed from a backyard and carried off to certain death on the back off a flat bed truck last week, it closely follows a restorable Wolseley 4/44. The stripped Morris Marina ( Australian spec) in similiar circumstances probably deserved to die, well it wasnt a TC Coupe after all! They were a vicious thing even when new!
