Diesel Jag XK, Where do I sign?
February 3rd 2009 13:13
The largest and poorest Indian car company Jaguar is looking at installing a V6 diesel in the gorgeous XK coupe. The British websites are generally up in arms saying " a diesel engine in a sports car is not a sports car!" really? No-one told BMW or Mercedes Benz!
A recent episode of Top Gear, the real one, not one of its lesser copies, conducted a test between a Jaguar XJ6, VW Polo and a Subaru Outback, all diesel powered. They drove them from Basle in Switzerland to Blackpool in Northern England. They all made it on a single tank a distance of over 750 miles or 1200 kilometres to us!
In Australia we are unlucky enough to have diesel at prices dearer than Europe, so the Jag may not work here, but in Europe, where petrol is more expensive then diesel, hey, why not! Interesting bit of trivia, BMW only stock diesel cars in France, you have to order a petrol!
If Jaguar (and TATA) is serious about its survival, this is the kind of action it needs to take to attract buyers because without them it will not survive. Jaguar need to forget about all these tweedy Englishman, whinging, just get on and build the bloody thing and make it soon!
Autoloud is pretty sure that If you did drive something that looked this good and returned 40 something miles to the gallon, there is only one question, where do i sign?!
