Alas poor Bentley, I knew him well!

If you respect and desire Bentleys as much as AUTOLUD does, then join me for a moment’s silence.
The reason is the announcement of the final run of the Bentley Arnage.
Everyone has a theoretical top ten, and if that is the case then there are two, sometimes three Bentleys on mine. The Brooklands Coupe is there, the Continental GT (Sometimes!) and the Arnage.
The reason I love the Arnage so much is that it is a true Bentley, designed before the days of German ownership and powered by one the best engines in the world, the awesome 6.75 litre V8. This engine was engineered some 40 years ago and a continuing development programme has kept the motor up to date.
That’s not the only reason, I love how it looks, the stately façade that is easily destroyed by pushing the alloy pedal into the shag pile floor rugs and watching all break loose!
If this is a car for cads, bounders and bad boys then I want to be one!
Volkswagen will no doubt replace it with something more German but will it be better, only time will tell. Sharing a platform with Bugatti is an interesting concept, but will it really be a Bentley?
