A sheep in wolf's clothing!

Cast your mind back to a simpler time, when you could put a sexy body on an average car and call it a coupe! The Ford Capri was just such a vehicle.
The first Ford Capri was a sexy American looking hard top coupe powered (if thats the word!) by 1500 cc of throbbing British pit pony power! The second version arrived in 1969 and was advertised as "the car you always promised yourself!" Ford were always good at marketing.
Available with everything from a 1300 cc engine to the 3.0 litre V6, the Capri was perfect or all budgets and at one stage was in the top ten seller list in the UK. The bigger engine variants were always the most popular, the volume two litre was ok to drive but it was the V6 models that were hot stuff! They must have been because they were on every British TV show at one stage, Minder, The Professionals and The Sweeney all featured the Crapi, sorry Capri.
The car was popular around the world especially in the colonies, for instance in South Africa it was fitted a 302 V8, problem was, it went like stink but didnt stop real well! Ford facelifted the car twice in its lifetime, the Mark 2 gained a hatchback and fold down seats, while the Mark 3 was a much more modern looking thanks to its black bumpers rather than chrome!
The Mark 3 also saw the birth of the ultimate road going version, the 2.8 injection which was a rapid and sweet car to drive and was more than refined than the earlier 3.0litre V6 "hairy chested" coupes. The Capri was around for about fifteen years and at the end of its life. although old, was still considered a performance car, not bad for a Cortina coupe really!
