5 GT or not 5 GT from BMW

May 25th 2009 13:46
This is the new BMW 5 GT.

bmw 5 gt

According to BMW, they wanted to provide limousine space with a command driving position, huh?

Look closer and you will notice that it shares a family resemblance in the roofline to the other Munich monster, the X6. This newcomer is a hatchback but BMW have also managed to cleverly engineer a boot-lid into the car as well, possibly to widen the cars appeal. New idea? Well, no actually, the Skoda Superb unveiled this feature just last year.

BMW will offer the car with the usual range of engines which will include a choice of six cylinder and V8 petrol and diesel units. Mainland European buyers will also be able to option in an all wheel drive system.

The 5 GT has been designed to crash the private party that the Mercedes CLS and VW Passat CC have been having. Those two four door coupes have one thing that the 5 GT does not, sex appeal!

The CLS is a sexy car and the Passat isn’t too bad looking either, while the 5 GT really can’t make its mind up what it is. Is it a hatch? Is it a sedan? Is it a two wheel drive SUV?

Quite possibly even BMW aren’t sure because they call it a Sports activity vehicle!

What will BMW think of next?

How about a LUDO!

Looks Ugly Drives Okay!

Channel Nine have done it again!

A slow news day and "A current affair" vomits up a story about “A new car for the price of a coffee!”

Mmmm, sounds good! but then when you listen to the story, their industry expert John Cadogan, tells you to extend your mortgage and buy a new car!

Really??

What a concept!! Refinance your house and then buy a car with the money, how long is your mortgage term? 30 years? 25 years? Guess how long you will be paying it off for, that’s right, the term of your mortgage!

Of course, you will have sold the car after three or five years ownership meaning you are still paying it off years after it departed your driveway! A great idea! Cadogan also then spruikes that once you trade it in, do the same again!

What happens when interest rates go up again, as they inevitably will? You end up paying Rolls Royce money for a Hyundai! That sounds like rock solid financial management to AUTOLOUD!

NOT!!

Psssst! Just in case you believe in conspiracy theories, Channel Nine own a large portion of carsales.com and of course if more people look at and buy cars using that website who benefits?

Amongst others, Channel Nine of course!

Chrysler and Iacocca.

May 5th 2009 13:54
Lee Iacocca

Now that it is official, it is timely to remind you that thirty years have passed since Chrysler first entered bankruptcy.

It all happened as ex Ford Motor company man Lee Iacocca, took over the reins at the ailing corporation. Considered by many to be the father of the Ford Mustang, Iacocca admits that he only found out how much trouble Chrysler was in once he joined ailing company.

Iacocca had a clean out of the Chrysler staff ranks, recruited some new guys and came up with a battle plan. He took all this to the Carter administration and asked for money, lots of money! They agreed and guaranteed the loans.

Realising that Chrysler had to lead their recovery with product, programs were pushed forward and the K car was born.

Iacocca was a visionary; he had a plan to form “Global Motors” which would remain unfulfilled. This plan would have seen Chrysler merge or enter into agreements with a Japanese partner and a European partner which would have had them share mechanical packages and sales channels in each others home markets. This was brilliant in its simplicity and would have saved each company millions possibly billions in development costs. All sounds a bit familiar right, did someone say FIAT?

Now remember all this was thirty years ago, Iacocca not only saved Chrysler, he also orchestrated the repayment of the multi million rescue package to the government years ahead of time.

Where is the Iacocca of today? if you are out there please call the White House collect, Autoloud is sure that President Obama will accept the charges!
