Auto Loud - January 2009

Another one bites the dust!

January 31st 2009 07:20
Thanks to the global economic meltdown /recession/ disaster depending on which news service you watch or listen to, Honda have announced that the Honda S2000 is no more!

Honda S2000

Although it was never the best looking sports car, it made up for it in the driving department.
The close ratio six speed gearbox was a delight to use and as a result it made the frequent trips to the ridiculously high redline a joy! You could drive it without venturing to the redline and it drove just like a Honda Civic. Give me the redline every time!

Autoloud experienced the S2000 several times and the best part about the car was, that it was essentially British in character, bringing to mind all those old MG's, Triumph and Healey's that we all loved, except of course the famous Honda reliability came standard. This meant that you could drive the car in any weather conditions without fear of it ceasing to proceed!

Cars like this get dumped by their manufacturers and then autos that are less than desirable are allowed to live on, it is not fair! Enthusiasts of the world beware, this will not be the last!

Autoloud will miss the S2000!

A showroom of no cheer!

January 25th 2009 01:16
Unlike the Boomerang that came back, Cadillac won’t be because Holden have dumped Cadillac, HOORAY!

The on again / off again launch, which had already stretched past a year of its original date, has now been officially postponed. Holden say they have only one chance to get it right and not releasing Cadillac onto the Australian market may well be the “rightest” thing they have done!

It is hard to fathom exactly what the reasons were that Holden wanted the brand in the first place, it certainly was not to compete against the likes of Audi, BMW and all the other Euros. The only cars that may have been affected sale wise by the Cadillac was Holden’s very own Calais, Statesman and Caprice! It makes no sense to have two cars from the same company, competing for the same customers. Holden only had to look at the previous Australian experience that Ford had with the Ford Fairmont Ghia and the Taurus Ghia to see that.

The biggest problem is that GM knows how to build a car that handles and is economical for its size (the Commodore) so why does Australia need an American alternative that is not as good as the original is? Blame the marketing department, I do! Autoloud has to tell you the Cadillac is on sale in Europe and the UK where it has proved to be a dismal failure, except with the football fraternity!

In Australia Cadillac was to be placed in the same showrooms as SAAB and Hummer! God do I feel sorry for the salespeople in those dealerships! Slim Dusty used to sing about a pub with no beer, try a showroom with no cheer, more like!

Whats Italian for 300C?

January 20th 2009 12:53
Car companies are scrambling for dance partners like it is the last dance at the prom and of course, it will be the wallflowers who get left out!

The latest whispers suggest that Chrysler are about to be asked to dance by Fiat! A strange match? Perhaps not!

Fiat designed Chrysler people mover

Fiat have long wanted to re-enter the American market and buying into Chrysler may give them a cheap way out. Fiat have a huge range of small and meduim sized cars while Chrysler have the the large cars and people movers. Throw in the ability to platform share and a dealer network which is desperate for some small cars and this tryst may well suit everybody involved!

The last dalliances Chrysler had with Italian lovers ended in tears, who remembers the Chrysler TC by Maserati? Thought not! Their ownership of Lamborghini from 1987 through to 1994 was a non event too.

Ah well, thats amore!

Ciao!

It never ceases to amaze me!

General Motors, desperate for sales, go and kill a perfectly good vehicle that might even challenge the Japanese at their own game
