Auto Loud - October 2008

Volvo wagons and visible floor mats!

October 30th 2008 14:05
Maxwell Schmart has now been with AUTOLOUD for a whole month!

There is a problem though, AUTOLOUD never gets to drive him because Mrs Autoloud has claimed him as her own! As you or I would throw a crunchy chip (or french fry!) to a seagull, then she has tossed me her Volvo wagon!

Initially I dont think the Volvo liked me, you can just tell these things! Now though, the tissue mobile, as I call it, has gained from the change in drivers-ship. For instance I can now see the floor! Amazing what a vacuum and some child re-training will do!

This is not our first Volvo, we have had several, Despite what others may say, the V70 is a good car. However, I do miss the 240's we used to own. I read somewhere that the guy who owns Ikea still drives his 1993 model 240 wagon every day, Honestly, if I owned Ikea and I was the richest man in Sweden, which he is, I would be driving something a little more upmarket! Wouldnt you?

The next time I manage to prise the SMART's keys away from Mrs Autoloud I will give you an update on how the little guy drives!

Not so regal Royale!

October 29th 2008 11:55
Some time ago AUTOLOUD talked about Bugatti Royales.

We normal folk will never own a real Royale, well, not unless you have the $ 10 million plus needed of course!

A German company called Bauer have released a 1/18 scale version of the Coupe de Napoleon. This thing is magnificent and the asking price of $ 600 US is somewhat more affordable!

Assembled from 1300 parts, this is a serious model car as you can see from the images. It is big wide and heavy, luckily it comes in its own display case! This is probably a good thing as you dont want Junior to play on the carpet with it do you!

Bug, Bond bug!

October 28th 2008 12:17
The British have always been a little eccentric when it comes to cars. They cant help themselves really, you see the problem used to be that the next village was less than ten miles away and they normally spoke a different dialect!

I digress, the 1970's were a time of sideburns, flared trousers and handlebar moustaches and that was just the women! This was the era into which the Bond Bug arrived.

This three wheeled slab of stilton cheese was perhaps the trendiest thing to own then, but it was one of those cars that everyone wanted, until they drove it!

Powered ( if that is the right word!) by a 700cc four cylinder, it slogged its way to a 75mph top speed, as long as you didnt go round corners! Acceleration was slothful, try 0-100kph in 23 secondzzzzzzzzz.

It only came in one colour, had no doors and a swing up cockpit canopy and it used to fall over on a regular basis. Not roll though just fall over, as if to rest! Think about that for a minute, it rolls and has a canopy, can you yell HELP! really loudly!

It proves once again that the English have a sense of humour!

As a rule AUTOLOUD does not normally discuss politics or financial markets. In the last couple of weeks we have world stock markets on a roller coaster ride and even the experts are looking grim and shaking their collective heads. The world economic situation is bordering on implosion and there will be repercussions within the motor industry, in fact they have already started!

Factories world wide are shedding staff and production numbers in an effort to shore up their businesses. Dealerships are closing their doors all over the USA, in fact the largest Chevy dealer (by volume) just shut the doors owing somewhere around the $ 250 million

Top Gear, X6 and Autoloud

October 13th 2008 12:51
Its that time of the week again! Post mortem time for TOP GEAR OZ!

The thing I found interesting about tonights show was the BMW X6 story, Mmmm! Is it just me or have I heard bits of this before? Now, I am not paranoid , in fact far from it , but according to my earlier post- Was Frankenstein a German? - I did raise some points that were the same points raised tonight by TG OZ

Bathurst needs a makeover!

October 12th 2008 12:08
AUTOLOUD can take or leave the so called Great race-AKA-Bathurst 1000.

Watching it is a bit like that scene in “National Lampoons European vacation”. The scene I refer to is the one where the Griswald’s get stuck on a roundabout in London and with every lap you hear the comment ‘There’s Big Ben

Too SMART for its own good!

October 3rd 2008 13:22
AUTOLOUD is back on four wheels!

Sitting in the driveway is a triumph of German engineering. This rear engined, turbocharged, sequential gearboxed, two door coupe is also fitted with a clear roof and to aid handling, has wider rear tyres than front ones
